Santa Ana is a wealthy suburb of San Jose Costa Rica, located 15 minutes to the West of the center of San Jose, next to Escazu. Sana Ana is trendy with upscale restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere. Popular attractions in Santa Ana include the Multiplaza shopping mall (a 3 story and the largest mall in Costa Rica), CIMA Hospital complex (associated with Baylor University in TX), PriceSmart (a knock off of Costco or Sams Club), IMAX movie theatre, numerous US franchises (Applebees, Fridays, Tony Romas, Outback, Hooters) and hotels like Intercontinental, Marriott) and large business and office buildings where several multinational companies house their Latin American headquarters (Plaza Roble and Forum Office Park).

This area is popular with foreigners from the US, Canada and Europe for full time residences and travel vacation destination. The Caldera Highway, a modern toll road starts in San Jose and runs past Escazu and Santa Ana to the Pacific Coast beaches. The climate of Santa Ana is dry during most of the year and at an elevation of about 3,000 Ft above sea level, offers a near perfect climate. Temperatures are moderate with highs around 80F and lows of 60F. The green season runs May to November with slightly cooler temperatures and afternoon showers. Santa Ana is located only 15 minutes from the Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alejuela. Escazu, Santa Ana, Belen and Cariari are some of the fastest growing suburbs of San Jose Costa Rica.

High end residential developments include Eco-Residential Villa Real and Valle del Sol with two golf courses nearby. Valle del Sol is an upscale course with reasonable tee times. For horse lovers and fans of equestrian riding, La Caraiia Riding Academy or the Centro Equestre Valle Yos-Yo are located in the area.
