Montezuma, Costa Rica is located on the southern Nicoya Peninsula on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast East of Mal Pais and Santa Theresa and South of Nosara, Samara and Nicoya in the Cobano Municipality. Although it shares the Nicoya Peninsula with Guanacaste, Montezuma belongs to the Puntarenas Region. Montezuma isn't easy to get to which makes is a destination - not a town you pass through on your way to another (except of course if you are going to even more out of the way Santa Theresa or Mal Pais). Montezuma is accessible by water taxi from Jaco-Herradura, by small, private or Nature Air airplane or via car by either taking a ferry from Puntarenas or driving accross Costa Rica's largest bridge build by Taiwan. It's flavor of real estate demand is as unique and diverse as its residents. This quaint beach town is a mixture of European Expats, Canadian Expats, Costa Ricans and Bohemians with a very natural, hippy culture. American's take note - you are not well liked here as the town has an anti-American and anti-establishment bias. A film festival every year is mostly about environmental concerns, peace and anti-war and pro-liberal world issues. Since the 1970's, tourists from around the world have visited Montezuma and discovered yet another beautiful piece of Costa Rica and Central America. Many have ended up staying and becoming full time residents. This is an artistic community. Artists, environmentalists, musicians, bohemians and creative types, many of which sell there wares and crafts from street side markets and small shops in this three block wide town.

Montezuma's beaches are beautiful and many still untouched. A popular destination among tourists and locals alike is a huge waterfall close to town and quaint surf spots.
