Costa Rica's Jaco South Beach is the more quiet end of Jaco beach, the waves are a little more tame because of the volcanic rock reef that protects Jaco Bay. Most of the surf camps set up their tents on the south end for the surf schools for beginning and intermediate level surfers. Costa Rica is home to warm water and some of the best surf in the world. Jaco Beach is known for its consistent surf. One more note - during the rainy season, rocks are washed up on parts of the beach due to strong river currents caused by heavy rains in the mountains and rainforest. These rocks are welcomed by the surfers because they create the wave breaks for great surfing. During the warmer, dryer months, the rains end and the rocks disappear in the sand.

Tide Flows on Jaco Beach Costa Rica. Low tide is the best time to walk or jog on Jaco beach. Jaco Beach has a dramatic tide that can add almost 100 meters (yards) to the beach at low tide. At high tide, most of the beach on the south end disappears and is covered by water. Extreme high tides can bring over 11 feet of water into the bay. There are two tides each day (two low and two high tides) separated by 12 hours. Every day the tides change by about 45 minutes. If the high tide is at 12:00 noon, another high tide will appear at 12:00 midnight. If high tide is at 12:00 today, it will be approximately 12:45 tomorrow.
